Chapter -13 International Perspectives on Family Life Education

Questions/Problems for Discussion and Review – Chapter 13

  1. Talk with students from other cultures or students who have been exchange students and find out about their experiences in different cultures. What did you learn about other cultures and what insights did you receive about your own culture? How do these cultural experiences influence families?
  2. Select a select a country in the world to which you might want to emigrate. How would your life be different in regard to various changes in family life, school, gender, dating, extracurricular activities, or employment?
  3. What are some cultural traditions in which you and your family participate either from U.S. culture or another cultural group? What traditions might you take with you in into the next generation?

Research Problems

  1. Using the ecosystem approach or any other theory mentioned in this chapter or text, analyze a global issue applying one or more theories.
  2. Experience an environment unlike the one with which you are familiar. This could be a cultural celebration, restaurant with specialized cultural foods, or religious setting. How does it feel to be different in this setting? What feelings might you have if you were to become a permanent or semi-permanent resident within this culture? What did you learn about this culture?
